We Cannot Insist Only On Issues Related To Abortion, Gay Marriage And The Use Of Contraceptive Methods. The Teaching Of The Church, For That Matter, Is Clear And I Am A Son Of The Church, But It Is Not Necessary To Talk About These Issues All The Time.

This Concern For The Poor Is In The Gospel, It Is Within The Tradition Of The Church, It Is Not An Invention Of Communism And It Must Not Be Turned Into An Ideology, As Has Sometimes Happened Before In The Course Of History.

It Is Also Painful To See That The Struggle Against Hunger And Malnutrition Is Hindered By Market Priorities, The Primacy Of Profit, Which Have Reduced Foodstuffs To A Commodity Like Any Other, Subject To Speculation, Also Of A Financial Nature, The Hungry Remain, At The Street Corner, And Ask To Be Recognized As Citizens, To Receive A Healthy Diet. We Ask For Dignity, Not For Charity.

As Christians, We Have An Additional Reason To Love And Serve The Poor; For In Them We See The Face And The Flesh Of Christ, Who Made Himself Poor So To Enrich Us With His Poverty.

Not To Share One’s Goods With The Poor Is To Rob Them And To Deprive Them Of Life. It Is Not Our Goods That We Possess, But Theirs.
