E Idea Of A Personal God Is Quite Alien To Me And Seems Even Naive. However, I Am Also Not A "freethinker" In The Usual Sense Of The Word Because I Find That This Is In The Main An Attitude Nourished Exclusively By An Opposition Against Naive Superstition. My Feeling Is Insofar Religious As I Am Imbued With The Consciousness Of The Insuffiency Of The Human Mind To Understand Deeply The Harmony Of The Universe Which We Try To Formulate As "laws Of Nature." Nor Do I Take Into Account A Danger Of Starting A Chain Reaction Of A Scope Great Enough To Destroy Part Or All Of The Planet...but It Is Not Necessary To Imagine The Earth Being Destroyed Like A Nova By A Stellar Explosion To Understand Vividly The Grow Ing Scope Of Atomic War And To Recognize That Unless Another War Is Prevented It Is Likely To Bring Destruction On A Scale Never Before Held Possible, And Even Now Hardly Conceived, And That Little Civilization Would Survive It.
